Ten Things to Do as You Begin Your Job Search

1. LinkedIn Profile URL – Delete numbers after your LinkedIn URL.

2. LinkedIn Headline – Change the default job title to your key expertise and skills.

3. Resume – Tailor your resume to different roles using key words from job descriptions.

4. Cover letter – Describe why you are interested in each employer.

5. Fear of networking – This is one of the most important parts of your search. There is nothing to lose by reaching out.

6. Elevator Pitch – Do you have a plan for how to describe yourself in a short period of time?

7. Mock Interviews – This is the best way to practice with a career coach who will give you proper feedback.

8. Refusal to Join LinkedIn – You will lose out on many opportunities to network, reach out to recruiters (and vice versa) and search for jobs.

9. Your Social Media Sites – Make sure anyone on the planet cannot view your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

10. Email Address – Use a current, professional email address like Gmail.
