KTS Career Coaching
“Um,” “ Like,” “You Know.” These are my main pet peeves when I am preparing someone for an interview. In my career coaching practice, I conduct mock interviews with clients and school applicants of all ages. If I am not recording the interview for them to view (which I highly recommend), I note the number of times they use ‘filler’ words. Most say they are aware of this but not to the extent to which they use these words. And, to be honest, most of us are guilty of this, however, in an interview, it is not acceptable. So pay close attention to yourself when you are speaking to anyone (friends, family, colleagues, etc.) Once you know you are doing this, you CAN learn to stop it.
